1950 Ty Cobb Brown & Bigelow Calendar Signed Legal-Release Card

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $830

During the early 1950s Ty Cobb, along with a number of other former baseball stars, appeared in a series of sports calendars produced by Brown & Bigelow. Today, those calendar illustrations depicting the players offering encouragement and instruction to young players are well known, with many of the original artworks permanently housed in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Offered here is Cobb's signed release, dated September 20, 1950, in which he gives agent Christy Walsh formal consent to use his likeness in an "All America Sport Calendar" produced by Brown & Bigelow. (Walsh was obviously the recruitment agent for Brown & Bigelow.) Cobb has signed the release in black ink, with his signature grading "10." Encapsulated by SGC, with the signature certified as "Authentic" by JSA. The release (5 x 3 inches), which is typed on the front of a government postcard (not addressed; never mailed), remains in Excellent to Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $830
