1946 Brooklyn Dodgers Team-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $356
Official National League (Frick) ball signed in blue ink by the following twenty-five members of the 1946 Brooklyn Dodgers: Durocher (Mgr., sweet spot), Reese, Herman, Schultz, Sandlock, Lombardi, Herring, Naylor, Walker, Dressen (coach, sweet spot), Hermanski, Anderson, Furillo, Webber, Higbe, Galan, Branca, Reiser, Gregg, Padgett, Hatten, Stanky, Behman, Whitman, and Stevens. The vintage black-ink notation "1946/Dodgers/1946" is printed on a side panel. Signatures range from "3" to "8," averaging "5/6." The ball has been coated with a layer of protective shellac, to which there are a few minor chips and/or abrasions. In Very Good condition overall. This ball, along with two other Brooklyn Dodgers team balls in this auction, was originally obtained by our consignor's uncle (an accountant who had business dealings with the Dodgers). As our consignor relates, his uncle used to take him to Ebbets Field often to see the Dodgers. During each outing, the uncle would normally procure a team-signed ball as a souvenir of their trip, which he then presented to his nephew as a gift. Like the others, this ball has remained in our consignor's sole possession since that time. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $356
