Circa 1928 Babe Ruth Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $4,148
Official American League (Barnard) ball signed in black fountain pen by Babe Ruth across the sweet spot. A tiny abrasion touches upon the "R" in "Ruth," otherwise the signature grades "7/8." The ball has also been signed in blue fountain pen (grading "7") by journeyman infielder Frank O'Rourke, who played with six different clubs during his fourteen-year career (which included appeances in the majors spanning the years 1912 to 1931). The date, "1928" appears below O'Rourke's signature. There are three additional black-ink signatures on the ball, all of which are partially illegible, but they do not appear to be those of major league players. One appears on the north panel with that of O'Rourke while the other two are located on the west panel. This ball dates to the 1926-1931 manufacturing period. The ball is moderately soiled, with a few light abrasions, but all of the manufacturer's stampings are bold and legible. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $4,148
