Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $2,963
Wilson "Boys Amateur" baseball signed in black fountain pen by Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Ruth's signature (grading "7"), as is customary, graces the sweet spot, while Gehrig's signature ("6") is located on the east panel. It must be noted that Ruth's entire signature has been traced over, while the "g" in "Gehrig" also shows evidence of a slight enhancement. Additionally, JSA has noted that there are a few signature removals on a side panel. The ball, which is moderately toned, displays some abrasions, particularly on one side panel. In Very Good condition overall. Despite the condition anomalies, both signatures display well, making this a very interesting and potentially very attractive alternative to a higher-grade example. The world record for an ideal essentially flawless Ruth-Gehrig signed ball - admittedly the finest in the world - was set at REA in May 2013 (Lot 14), selling for $343,650. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,963
