1966 Fleer "Baseball Weird-Ohs" Original Artwork for Card #62 By Bill Campbell
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $356
Original artwork for card #62 from the Fleer "Baseball Weird-Ohs" set, illustrated by famed artist William "Bill" Campbell. This novelty set issued by Fleer in 1966 features various creature characters in baseball-themed scenes with each illustration exaggerated in certain areas for humorous effect. The artwork measures 4-1/8 by 6-7/8 inches and is affixed to a larger artist board measuring 8.5 by 11 inches. Brilliant, bold colors make the artwork "pop" and present exceptionally well in overall Near Mint condition. The artist board contains four small pieces of vintage tape, two small areas of paper loss from mounting, and a small pencil notation, all related to its use in production and not affecting the artwork at all. An example of the final production card accompanies this artwork. Campbell is noted for his work painting box covers for the Hawk Model Company and creating the characters featured in the "Weird-Ohs," "Silly Surfers," and "Frantics" series, which appeared on various models, albums, card and sticker sets during the early- to mid-1960s. There are many parallels between his artwork and that of Ed Roth, creator of "Rat Fink." This is an outstanding original artwork from this unusual set created and illustrated by legendary artist William Campbell. Total: 2 items (1 original artwork and 1 card).Reserve $200.
