1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Ed Delahanty SGC VG/EX 50
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $3,555
Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. 1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug card of Hall of Famer Ed Delahanty; this formal studio portrait presents him dressed in street clothes. There are very few baseball cards of Delahanty, due to his untimely and tragic death in 1903, and the fact that few baseball card sets were issued during the years in which he played (1888 to 1903). Delahanty was one of the premier stars of the nineteenth century, enjoying his best two seasons in 1894 and 1895, batting .407 and .404, respectively. It is interesting to note that Mayo misspelled his name as "Delehanty" on this card. This is a very attractive card with a crisp image, excellent centering, and light wear against the delicate black borders and corners (most noticeably the upper right). A single, light hairline crease visible in the lower right reverse corner is responsible for the technically accurate grade despite a far superior apperance. This is a very attractive example of one of Delahanty's most important cards, dating from the peak of his career, and one of the most desirable Hall of Famers in the Mayo's series. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $3,555
