1968 Topps 3-D Roberto Clemente
Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $2,963
Offered is one of Roberto Clemente's most sought-after cards, the key to the 1968 Topps 3-D set, as well as one of the single most valuable cards from the entire 1960s decade. One of the few cards deserving to be classified as a modern classic, the 1968 Topps 3-D Roberto Clemente stands on its own very comfortably with the most significant and noteworthy cards from all eras. This particular example has been graded FAIR 20 by SGC due entirely to vertical cracking on the front, a flaw common to cards from this issue. The front of the card displays well, despite the surface cracking (which, depending on the angle viewed, ranges from barely noticeable at some angles, to appearing as heavy vertical streaking at other angles), with bold colors and strong centering (slightly towards the bottom). The blank reverse shows evidence of perhaps being mounted during some point in its life (perhaps, as intended, adhered to an easel back which was packaged with 1968 Topps 3D cards), and light wrinkling, which does not break through to the front, is visible. Despite these technical flaws, this remains a very presentable (and, compared to what this card would sell for in high grade, a relatively affordable) example of one of postwar-card collecting's most important and high-profile cards.Reserve $300.
