1963 Topps Complete Set (576)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,555

46% Ex-Mt or better, 43% Ex, and 11% Vg-Ex (including a few lesser). This is a very attractive mid- to high-grade 1963 Topps set. The key card in the set, the #537 Pete Rose rookie card, is graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Highlighted by the rookie cards of Rose and Willie Stargell, the 1963 Topps also includes many additional key star cards in the difficult high-number series, including Roberto Clemente and Duke Snider. Nine cards are graded and encapsulated by PSA. Keys: #25 Kaline (2/98 T/B, otherwise Nr/Mt), 115 Yastrzemski (PSA NM 7), 120 Maris (Ex-Mt+), 138 Mays/Musial (Ex+, miscut on back), 173 Bombers' Best with Mantle (PSA NM 7), 200 Mantle (PSA EX-MT 6), 205 Aparicio (PSA NM-MT 8), 210 Koufax (Ex-Mt), 242 Banks/Aaron (Vg-Ex+), 250 Musial (Ex-Mt), 275 Mathews (Ex+), 300 Mays (Ex), 320 Spahn (Ex), 340 Berra (Vg-Ex, measures small), 345 B. Robinson (Ex), 360 Drysdale (Ex), 380 Banks (Ex), 390 Aaron (Ex-Mt), 400 F. Robinson (Ex-Mt+), 412 Dodgers' Big Three (Ex-Mt), 415 Gibson (Ex+), 446 Ford (Vg-Ex), 472 Brock (Ex), 490 McCovey (PSA EX-MT 6), 500 Killebrew SP (Ex), 537 Rose RC (PSA EX-MT 6), 540 Clemente (PSA NM-MT 8 [OC]), 550 Snider (Ex-Mt), and 553 Stargell RC (98/2 L/R, otherwise Ex-Mt). Two commons are also graded PSA NM-MT 8 (#69 and 533). The flush-to-the-border design of this issue renders the cards very susceptible to corner and edge wear, making it all the rarer to find such a crisp, clean, sharp-looking complete set. Almost all of the lesser graded cards present extremely well but have been downgraded due to centering issues or light corner wear against the colored borders, both very common flaws with this issue. The SMR value for just eight of the graded cards (not including the qualified Clemente and not including the 567 ungraded cards!) is $1,086. Total: 576 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $3,555
