1895 N300 Mayo's Cut Plug Buck Ewing - Cleveland

Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $2,963

Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Exceptionally strong N300 Mayo's Cut Plug of Hall of Famer Buck Ewing. There are two team variations of Ewing in the Mayo set. This is the earlier-issued "Cleveland" variation. Ewing was with Cleveland in 1894 and his Mayo card was first issued with "Cleveland" on his shirt. This team designation was later changed to "Cincinnati" when he joined the Reds for the 1895 season. Bright and crisp, with very light wear to the condition-sensitive edges and corners, perfect contrast, and excellent centering. This is an impressive high-grade example (especially for N300s) of one of the most important cards in the Mayo set and one of Buck Ewing’s most classic cards. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $3,750. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $2,963
