1955 Topps #123 Sandy Koufax Rookie SGC NM/MT 88
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,259
Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Striking ultra high-grade rookie card of Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax. Only fifteen examples have ever been graded higher by SGC (eight SGC NM-MT+ 92 and seven SGC MINT 96) out of an extraordinary 787 examples evaluated to date. This is one of the 1950s' most famous and noteworthy cards. The 1955 Topps Koufax rookie (#123) is also the most valuable card in that year's set after Roberto Clemente's rookie card in the high-number series. The card displays four sharp corners, with brilliant colors, flawless registration, and near-perfect centering. The offered example is free of any printing specs in the yellow background, which are so common to this card. Entirely clean reverse. Deserving of its high grade in every way, this is a stunning world-class example of Sandy Koufax's rookie card, one of the most popular and classic of all 1950s bubble-gum cards. The equivalent SMR value is $2,900. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,259
