1953 Bowman Black & White Complete Set (64)
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $533
Complete 1953 Bowman Black & White 64-card set. The unusual Bowman Black & White set is by far the scarcer of the two 1953 Bowman baseball issues. 78% of the cards grade Vg to Vg-Ex, and 22% grade Pr to Gd. Keys: #1 Bell (Vg), 15 Mize (Vg), 25 Sain (Fr), 26 Roe (Pr), 27 Lemon (Fr), 28 Wilhelm (Pr), 31 Woodling (Gd), 36 Piersall (Ex), 39 Stengel (Gd), 46 Harris (Pr), 51 Burdette (Vg-Ex), 52 Branca (Vg), 60 Cox (Fr), and 64 Hansen (Gd). The 1953 Bowman Black and White set gets less attention than the 1953 Bowman Color set because it is a smaller set and has fewer stars (and there is no Mantle) but in the "old days" of collecting, the 1953 Bowman Black and White cards were far more desirable to many collectors, and were appreciated for their greater rarity, more so than in modern collecting times. This is a very clean and attractive set, and looks much better than the technical grades suggest. Total: 64 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $533
