1929 to 1936 Hall of Fame Card Collection (28) Including 1929 Star Player Candy Lou Gehrig

Starting Bid - $300, Sold For - $1,422

Collection of twenty-eight different prewar cards featuring exclusively Hall of Famers and highlighted by a 1929 Star Player Candy Lou Gehrig. These twenty-eight cards represent the "odds 'n' ends" from a much larger original-owner card collection consigned to this auction. The 1929 Star Player Candy card of Lou Gehrig is of special note and of course would be worth thousands of dollars in higher grade. It is still a great highlight even in low grade. This collection consists of the following: 1) 1929 Star Player Candy (1 card): #32 Lou Gehrig (Pr). 2) 1933 R333 DeLong (1 card): #14 Lefty Gomez (Pr). 3) 1934-1936 R318 Batter-Up (4 cards): #8 Bottomly (Gd/Vg), 23 Gomez (Fr), 36 Lyons (Pr), and 77 Manush (Gd/Vg). 4) 1934-1936 R327 Diamond Stars (18 cards): #1 Grove (Pr, pinhole), 2 Simmons (Vg/Vg-Ex), 3 Maranville (Pr), 9 Cochrane (Vg-Ex), 11 Dickey (Pr), 16 Waner (Fr), 28 Lopez (Pr, pinhole), 30 Manush (Pr, pinhole), 31 Cuyler (Pr, pinhole), 32 Rice (Pr), 35 Averill (Pr), 36 Lombardi (Pr, pinhole), 39 Hubbell (Pr), 44 Hornsby (Pr, pinhole), 48 Ferrell (Pr, pinhole), 77 Gehringer (Vg), 83 Waner (Fr), and 95 Appling (Pr). 5) 1936 R322 Goudey (4 cards): Cochrane (Vg), Greenberg (Vg+), Harris (Vg), and Klein (Fr). This is an interesting collection of low- to mid-grade Hall of Fame cards from several popular 1930s-era sets. Total: 28 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,422
