1933 R319 Goudey #144 Babe Ruth PSA VG-EX 4
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $3,259
Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Presented is an extremely attractive example of the ideal Babe Ruth bubble-gum card, featuring the legendary “Bambino” in his classic follow-through batting pose. Goudey must have also realized this was the most classic pose as, of all the cards in the set, this is the card they chose to double print when replacing the missing card #106 during production. This continues to be one of Ruth's most popular and recognizable baseball cards. Because it was double-printed by Goudey (there were exactly twice as many Ruth #144s printed as any other card in the same series), this card also represents the best value among the four Babe Ruth cards in the 1933 Goudey set. This is a very conservatively graded example (we grade this card EX) with brilliant colors, flawless registration, and centered just a hint to the top. The corners show just a hint of light wear. Crisp and clean, both front and back, with a very boldly printed reverse. This is a very impressive card with stronger eye-appeal than suggested by the assigned grade, sharing many (if not all!) qualities of a higher-graded example. The SMR value for the assigned grade is $2,000.Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,259
