1933 R319 Goudey #149 Babe Ruth SGC EX 60
Starting Bid - $1,000, Sold For - $4,740
Graded EX 60 by SGC. Beautiful example of one of Babe Ruth’s most famous and classic cards: #149 with red background from the 1933 Goudey series. This is a magnificent and striking example, bright and clean, and with virtually perfect registration (such a crisp image is rare to find with this particular card) and excellent centering. Four strong corners, showing light even wear, and a clean, boldly printed reverse. This card is one of the highlights from an original-owner Goudey set consigned to this auction. The Ruth and Gehrig cards are being offered separately as individual lots due to their exceptional grades and value (all submitted by REA). In an extremely desirable condition and, as noted, from an untouched (since the 1930s!) original-owner collection, this is an ideal card for the collector who wants an exceptional 1933 Goudey #149 Babe Ruth, but who is not interested in spending the many thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars an example in a significantly higher-grade might run. The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grade is $4,350. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000+. SOLD FOR $4,740
