1933 R319 Goudey #53 Babe Ruth SGC EX 60
Starting Bid - $1,500, Sold For - $5,629
Graded EX 60 by SGC. An exceptionally attractive example of one of Babe Ruth’s most classic cards: #53 with yellow background from the 1933 Goudey series. The "yellow background" pose of Babe Ruth is, without a doubt, his most difficult to obtain and sought-after card in the 1933 Goudey set. For some reason this card is also a condition rarity compared with other Ruth cards in the set. This card is one of the highlights from an original-owner Goudey set consigned to this auction. The Ruth and Gehrig cards are being offered separately as individual lots due to their exceptional grades and value (all submitted by REA). Bright and clean, with light even wear to all four corners, and virtually perfect registration (which can sometimes be a problem with this particular card). The back is clean with bold green print set against a white background. This is a magnificent original-owner example (literally untouched since the 1930s!) of one of Babe Ruth's most classic cards from the popular 1933 Goudey Gum series. The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grade is $5,750. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $5,629
