Lot # 330 (of 1137)   < Previous Lot | Next Lot >

1909-1911 T206 Collection (111) with 20 Hall of Famers Including Cobb with Tolstoi Back

Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $4,740

Original-owner collection of 111 (100 different) T206 White Border tobacco cards, highlighted by twenty Hall of Famers (seventeen different and three duplicates). These cards were part of a newly discovered original-owner collection presented in several lots throughout this auction. All have Piedmont or Sweet Caporal backs (except two Tolstoi, two American Beauty 350, and two American Beauty 460). 44% grade Gd (with a few Vg) and 56% grade Pr. We have submitted three cards to be graded and encapsulated by SGC. Highlights: Bender/no trees (Pr), Bender/trees (Gd), Bresnahan/portrait (Fr), Brown/Chicago (VG+ 45), Chance/red (Gd), Chance/yellow (Gd), Chase/blue (Gd), Cobb/bat off (Tolstoi, GOOD+ 35), Cobb/red (VG 40), Dahlen/Brooklyn (Gd), Evers/Chicago (Gd), Gandil (Fr), two Huggins/hands at mouth (Gd and Pr), two Jennings/both hands (both Pr, one Tolstoi), Jennings/one hand (Gd), Johnson/hands at chest (Pr), Mathewson/dark cap (Pr), McGraw/with cap (Fr), McGraw/no cap (Gd), and two Tinker/hands on knees (both Pr). This is a substantial collection of circulated T206s with a high concentration of Hall of Famers and representing 20% of a complete T206 set (plus duplicates). T206s perhaps more so than any other vintage issue are extremely popular in all grades. This is an ideal collection to serve as the foundation for the assembly of a mid-grade complete set of T206, the most popular and classic set of the 1910 era. The equivalent SMR value for just the three graded cards (factoring the half-grades in at the lower whole grade level and placing no premium on the Tolstoi back, and of course not including the remaining 108 cards!) is $1,430. Total: 111 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $4,740
