1886 N48 and N508 Allen & Ginter Women's Baseball Tobacco-Card Collection (9)
Starting Bid - $400, Sold For - $1,067
Collection of nine circa 1886 tobacco cards featuring women ballplayers in uniform. This collection consists of five N48 "Virginia Brights Cigarettes" and four N508 "Sub Rosa Cigarettes" cards, all featuring woman ballplayers. Each of these tobacco brands were very early Allen & Ginter cigarette brands. Five of the cards have been graded by SGC. 1) N48 "Virginia Brights Cigarettes" (5 cards): 1st Base (presents Vg, back damage), Catcher (SGC VG 40), Stealing Second (SGC VG 40), and two The Batter (SGC EX+ 70 with ad back and Pr). 2) N508 "Sub Rosa Cigarettes" (4 cards): Shortstop (presents Ex, back damage), two Stealing Second (SGC VG 40 and Pr), and The Pitcher (SGC VG 40). This is a fascinating collection of rare tobacco cards featuring women playing the game of baseball during the nineteenth century. These cards are somewhat modest in value compared to cards of Major Leaguers from this era, but are actually considerably rarer than most other pre-1900 baseball-related cards. Total: 9 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $1,067
