1962 Topps Baseball Back-of-Card Cartoon Artworks (65)

Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $7,110

Collection of sixty-five Topps cartoon artworks used in the production of the 1962 Topps baseball series. These are the actual cartoon artworks which appear on the backs of the standard 1962 Topps cards, adding a little humor and extra content to the reverses of the cards, as was standard practice for many Topps sets in the 1950s and 1960s. The sixty-five original black-and-white ink artworks are all executed on thin board stock varying in size, but many averaging 2.75 by 3.25 inches. Six artworks are presented on a design board measuring 8.75 by 10.25 inches and are held in place by means of clear tape. Slightly more than ten percent of the card-back artworks which appear in the 1962 Topps set are represented by this collection. The player's name and card number have been added by Topps in pencil in the margin area of each artwork. This was done to make sure that the correct artwork was assigned to the correct player for card design. The most significant artwork in this group is that of New York Yankees Hall of Famer Whitey Ford, which appears on the reverse of card #310. All the artworks are in Excellent condition, with light wrinkling on a few, and all display normal, production-related residue on the reverse. These are fascinating original artworks that are ideal for display with their respective issued cards. Total: 65 artworks. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++. SOLD FOR $7,110
