1962 Topps #313 "Maris Blasts 61st" - Original Card Artwork
Starting Bid - $500, Sold For - $5,925
Offered is the actual original artwork used to produce card #313 "Maris Blasts 61st" from the 1962 Topps set. This is a particularly noteworthy and impressive artwork as it commemorates the historic moment the New York Yankees slugger Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth's long-standing single-season home-run record. Topps celebrated Maris in appropriate fashion in the 1962 Topps set, awarding him the #1 card as well as a spot in the "In Action" subset for his achievement. The original flexichrome artwork measures 2-3/4 by 3-7/8 inches and is mounted on a larger artist's board measuring 4-9/16 by 5-11/16 inches in total. The artwork is in Near Mint condition, perfectly clean and crisp with no excess paint marks or surface wear as is sometimes the case with original artworks. The artist's board is also entirely clean with only pencil notations at the top for use in resizing during final production. A small perimeter area of the artwork was cropped out on the final issued card. This is an outstanding original 1962 Topps baseball card artwork from one of the most interesting and noteworthy cards in the set. Reserve $500. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $5,925
