Circa 1951 Bazooka Atom Gum Wrapper Collection (48) Plus Bazooka Display Boxes (4)
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $296
This unusual collection of Bazooka related material consists of the following:: Bazooka Gum Wrapper and Cartoon Set File Folder: Manila file folder containing sixteen pages of sample cartoon Bazooka gum-wrapper proofs on wax paper dating from circa 1951. These are not on the radar of most collectors but have great significance as they are among the earliest of all Bazooka comics, predating the iconic "Bazooka Joe" character. In total the collection consists of forty-eight circa 1951 Bazooka Atom Gum wrappers and comics that are presented in sixteen small uncut sheets (three comics and wax wrappers per sheet). These are very unusual, and feature comics with the titles "Cousin Juniper," Honey Bun," and "Crax and Jax." All are flat unassembled "proofs," with each small uncut sheet of three comics and accompanying outer wrapper taped across the top to a blank white sheet. The blank white sheets in turn are stapled together at the top. These are very interesting and colorful early Bazooka comic and wrapper proofs, and obviously extremely rare, especially in this ideal form! Also included in this lot are four point-of-sale Bazooka Gum boxes: 1) 120-Count Bazooka Gum Display Box: Flattened for storage and containing pencil-written measurements on the inside, relating to the production process. Overall Excellent condition with light wrinkling visible and a strip of vintage tape on the front flap. 2-3) Two 240-Count Bazooka Gum Display Boxes: Larger design to accommodate "New, Larger Size!" bubble gum, one box in Near Mint condition except for .75 by 1-inch piece neatly cut from top panel, the other in Very Good with scattered creasing, vintage tape, and a 1.5 by 2-inch piece cut from the top panel, both flattened for storage. 4) 480-Count Bazooka Gum Display Box: Flattened for storage and separated at the flaps for neat folding, overall Excellent condition with green marker design-related instructions on the bottom panel (dated 1975). Total: 48 wrapper proofs plus 4 boxes. Reserve $100. Estimate $200+. SOLD FOR $296
