Naval appointment, dated January 31, 1893, signed by Benjamin Harrison (1833-1901), twenty-third President of the United States. The document appoints William S. Sampson as "Chief of the Bureau of Ordnance in the Department of the Navy" for a term of four years. Signed by Benjamin Harrison as President of the United States and Benjamin F. Tracy as secretary of the Navy. Harrison's signature has been scripted in black ink, grading "7." The blue seal of the Navy Department remains affixed to the document in the lower left. The document (19.5 x 15 inches) is lightly toned, with a few minor surface blemishes, as well as a number of light creases. In Very Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200.
