1894 William McKinley Signed Appointment

State of Ohio commission, dated November 20, 1894, signed by William McKinley (1843-1901), twenty-fifth President of the United States. The document authorizes the appointment of William H. Schlosser as county auditor of Seneca County, Ohio, for a term of three years. McKinley has signed the document in his capacity as governor of Ohio. The document is also signed by Samuel Taylor as secretary of state. McKinley's signature has been scripted in black ink (grading "7," with minor bleeding to the "K") and measures an impressive 5.25 inches in length. The original gold seal of the state of Ohio remains firmly affixed in the lower left corner. The document (14 x 17 inches) displays one horizontal and three vertical folds, a few areas of minor toning, and light adhesive residue on the reverse. In Very Good condition overall.
