1887 N288 Buchner Gold Coin "Police Inspectors & Captains and Chiefs of the Fire Dept." SGC-Graded Pair

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $593

Presented is a pair of cards from the N288 Buchner Policemen set, each graded and encapsulated by SGC, in extraordinary high-grade for this issue. The 1887 N288 Buchner Policemen cards are among the rarest, most beautifully designed, and interesting of all nineteenth-century tobacco issues. This Buchner Tobacco series, officially titled "One of The Finest," features (as noted on the back of each card) "The Portraits of the Police Inspectors & Captains and Chiefs of the Fire Departments In Uniform." 1) Wiliam Murray (EX 60) and 2) Michael J. Murphy (SGC EX+ 70). These cards are in exceptional condition, each the highest-graded example on record and free of many of the condition issues that so often plague nineteenth-century cards. This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire two examples in extremely high-grade from one of nineteenth-century card collecting's premier issues. Total: 2 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
