1980-1981 Topps Basketball Complete Set on Two Uncut Sheets

Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $1,067

Outstanding pair of uncut sheets from the 1980-1981 Topps Basketball set, highlighted by the double-printed three-player rookie card of Hall of Famers Larry Bird and Magic Johnson alongside Julius Erving. This card is one of the most important of all basketball cards ever produced as it features three players named to the "50 Greatest Players in NBA History" list, two of whom appear for the first time ever on a Topps card. These two sheets represent a complete 176-card set plus 88 duplicates. Each sheet is arranged in eleven rows of twelve cards. The 1980-1981 Topps Basketball set is designed in trifold style so that each card features three individual player sections. An impressive visual is created by these two sheets, which have retained all their original gloss and vibrantly bold colors. Normal wear is visible along the edges and at the corners, extremely common on large uncut sheets like this. The upper left corner of each sheet displays moisture damage visible on front and back (the area extends ten inches along the top border and seven inches down the left border, forming a triangular area of surface wear) which blends into the front and is more noticeable against the white reverse. The important Bird/Magic/Johnson cards are situated on the bottom border and are entirely clean on both front and back. These sheets are ideal for display and would make outstanding companion pieces to any 1980-1981 Topps set or additions to any basketball or uncut-sheet collection. Dimensions: 28-3/8 by 43 inches. Total: 2 uncut sheets. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,067
