1950 Johnny Unitas Signed "City All Stars" Photo
Starting Bid - $100, Sold For - $237
Original photo of Johnny Unitas posing together with the other eighteen members of Pittsburgh's "City All Stars" in 1950. Beautifully signed by Unitas in black fountain pen (grading "9/10") directly above his image. This is an extremely rare Unitas photo, dating from his senior year in high school when he was just seventeen years old. Although we cannot state with certainty that Unitas signed the photo in 1950, it seems highly probable. At the very least, it is a vintage 1950s signature and one of the earliest Johnny Unitas signature examples that we have ever seen. It has been said that Unitas weighed just 145 pounds as a freshman at Louisville in 1951. Based upon this photograph, he must have gained a little weight over the summer, as he is easily the thinnest team member pictured. The red-marker notation, "1950 City All Stars," is scripted on the reverse and serves as the only identifier for the image. The photo (10 x 8 inches) displays creases and is in Fair to Good condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA and COA from PSA/DNA. Reserve $100. Estimate $200+. SOLD FOR $237
