1922 Principles of Football by John Heisman - First Edition
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $474
Rare hardcover first edition of Principles of Football by John Heisman, published in 1922 by Sports Publishing Bureau. The black fountain-pen inscription, "To Capt. A. N. Weyard/With Compliments/of/The Author," appears on the front flyleaf opposite the frontispiece. It should be noted that although JSA examined the inscription, it was not able at this time (prior to our going to press) to offer an opinion, pro or con, regarding the attribution of the unsigned inscription to John Heisman. The attribution of the inscription notwithstanding, this is both an extremely rare and important early football book and one of the cornerstone volumes for any advanced football library. John Heisman, for whom the Heisman Trophy is named, enjoyed a long and storied college coaching career. He passed away in 1936 and was posthumously inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1954. The book is missing its original dust jacket. The covers display light-to-moderate wear. All of the illustrations remain intact and the pages are clean and bright. In Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $474
