1900-1910 Spalding Leather Football Helmet
Starting Bid - $200, Sold For - $711
Spalding leather football helmet dating from the early 1900s. This helmet represents an extremely scarce style. Like the earlier nineteenth-century "flat-top" football helmets, it features the "dog-ear" flaps on the side and a lower back-panel extension. Those two features would soon give way to more protective design elements in later models. The Spalding-label stamp on the front is clearly legible and the leather remains soft and supple. General wear, commensurate with its age and former use, is evident throughout and all of the interior lining remains intact. In outstanding Excellent to Mint condition overall, it would be worthy of any advanced football or sporting-equipment collection. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $711
