Circa 1948 Honus Wagner Single-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $26,662.50
Official National League (Frick) ball signed by Hall of Fame shortstop Honus Wagner in blue fountain pen across the sweet spot. Wagner's signature contrasts exceptionally well against the cream-colored background and grades "8." Wagner, considered by many to be the greatest shortstop in baseball history, was one of the first five inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame and his signature alone on a baseball has always been highly prized by collectors. Like nearly all other Honus Wagner single-signed balls in the hobby today, this example was signed by Wagner during his coaching tenure with the Pirates, sometime between the years 1946 and 1951 (based upon the ball's manufacturing period). Wagner was a coach with the Pirates from 1933 through 1951, and he died four years later, in 1955. The ball displays a very light, even toning and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. A Honus Wagner single-signed ball is a cornerstone piece for any advanced baseball autograph or memorabilia collection and the offered ball represents one of the finest examples we have handled. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000+. SOLD FOR $26,662.50
