1935 All-Star Game Program Signed by Babe Ruth and Joe Vosmik
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,777.50
Although Babe Ruth's retirement on June 2, 1935, precluded him from appearing in the 1935 midsummer classic, he was in attendance that day (June 8, 1935), as evidenced here by this souvenir program from the game. This 1935 All-Star Game program has been beautifully signed by Ruth in black fountain pen (grading "7") on the side of an interior page featuring the preprinted score sheet for the American League. The signature of Cleveland player Joe Vosmik (also in black fountain pen) is also present on the page. Ruth witnessed the American League win its third consecutive All-Star Game that day, as they defeated their National League rivals 3-1 in Cleveland. The 32-page program (7.75 x 10.75 inches) features portrait images and brief biographies of each participant and has been neatly scored in pencil. A small edge tear affects each cover and every interior page, and the interior covers display light toning. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. This is a particularly noteworthy Ruth signed item, dating from just six days after Ruth's retirement, on a program for the 1935 All-Star Game (just one year earlier he had been a participant in the 1934 All-Star Game). Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500+.
