1928 Chicago Cubs Team-Signed Ball

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,659.00

Official National League (Heydler) ball signed in black fountain pen by the following twenty-six members of the 1928 Chicago Cubs: Hartnett, McCarthy (Mgr.), Cuyler, Wilson, Root, Holley, Tincup, Doolan (coach), Malone, Webb, Grampp, Grimm, Bush, Stephenson, Gonzalez, Nehf, Maguire, Heathcote, Jones, Carlson (ss), Butler (ss), McMillan (ss), Blake, Moore, Beck, and English. The vintage black-ink notation "Chicago-1928-Cubs" appears on a side panel. The fact that Grampp's signature is on this ball indicates that it was almost certainly signed during spring training, as he failed to make the roster that year. Signatures range from "6" to "8," averaging "7." The ball has been coated with a layer of protective shellac, and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. This is an outstanding Cubs team ball from the era featuring many of the same players who would lead the club to the National League pennant the following season. LOA from James Spence/JSA and full LOA from PSA/DNA. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,659.00
