Circa 1926 Ty Cobb Single-Signed Ball - Extremely Rare Single-Signed During Cobb's Playing Career!

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $2,666.25

Official American League (Johnson) ball signed by Hall of Fame outfielder Ty Cobb. The immortal "Georgia Peach" has scripted his name in black fountain pen on a side panel, with the signature grading "5/6." This ball dates to the 1926-1928 manufacturing period, a period corresponding to Cobb's last three seasons in the Major Leagues. Despite the fact that Cobb was a gracious signer, especially in the many years following his career, single-signed Cobb balls dating from his playing days are virtually nonexistent. This is only the second we can ever recall offering and one of only a very few we have seen. Adding to its appeal is the remarkable appearance of the ball. Both the Cobb signature and the Reach logo have been covered with a layer of protective shellac, otherwise the ball remains in Excellent to Mint condition, with all of the manufacturer's stampings bold and well defined. This is a particularly outstanding Cobb single that is all the more desirable for its vintage status. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000+.
