Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,251.50

Offered is an exceptional ultra high-grade complete set of 1961 Golden Press cards. All thirty-three cards have been graded and encapsulated by PSA. This classic set features all the great stars of the game, including legendary Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Ty Cobb, Cy Young, and Walter Johnson. This set contains one GEM MINT 10, twenty-one MINT 9, one NM-MT+ 8.5, seven NM-MT 8, and three NM 7. This issue is very substantial and interesting, yet is somewhat overlooked in the card-collecting world. Golden Press spared no expense in producing a beautiful set of cards featuring Hall of Famers. For years these sets were sold at souvenir shops in Cooperstown. Looking at the quality and design of the set, it is easy to appreciate its enormous aesthetic appeal both to youngsters in the 1960s and to modern vintage-card collectors that are familiar with the set. The PSA grades are as follows: One GEM MINT 10: #27 Dickey. Twenty-one MINT 9: #2 Alexander, 4 Greenberg, 5 Terry, 6 Hubbell, 7 Hornsby, 8 Dean, 10 Gehringer,11 Hartnett, 12 Cochrane, 13 Sisler, 14 Cronin, 15 Traynor, 17 Grove, 18 Bender, 19 Frisch, 20 Simmons, 21 Baker, 23 McGraw, 25 Gehrig, 26 Vance, and 28 Collins. One NM-MT+ 8.5: #16 Gehrig. Seven NM-MT 8: #1 Ott, 3 Ruth, 9 DiMaggio, 22 Foxx, 24 Mathewson, 29 Johnson, and 31 Lajoie. Three NM 7: #30 Speaker, 32 Wagner, and 33 Young. This is a tremendous high-grade set of this historic, classic, and often overlooked baseball issue. The total SMR value for the individual cards (calculating the GEM MINT 10 at the MINT 9 level) is $1,928. Total: 33 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $2,251.50
