1960 Topps Baseball Unopened Wax Box - Second Series (22 Packs)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $8,295.00
Extremely rare original 1960 Topps Baseball display box housing a total of twenty-two second series wax packs (out of the twenty-four packs that were originally in the box - two packs escaped) with each unopened pack containing six cards. The twenty-two packs in the box represent a total of 132 cards. The 1960 Topps second series (#111-198) includes Carl Yastrzemski's rookie card, one of the key cards in the set, as well as the Rival All Stars card featuring Mickey Mantle alongside Ken Boyer. While it is impossible to provide guarantees with reference to grading of unopened material, there is, of course, the possibility that within this box are high-grade examples of these two cards and many others. The packs are in Very Good to Excellent condition. There is light soiling present on several packs as well as minor tears or loosening of the glue seal on eight packs. The seal on one pack has loosened entirely. The box is missing the top (but comes with an extra bottom) and is technically in low grade due to tears at the joints and along the edges. Few Topps display boxes with unopened packs dating from over fifty years ago have survived! This is a rarely seen original display box with twenty-two (out of the original twenty-four that the box once contained) unopened wax packs of this popular issue. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
