The three strips are as follows: 1) Bender/Bresnahan/Brown (Vg, with corner wear and a light crease visible, cut leaving no bottom border). 2) Lombardi/Manush/Marion (Ex, minimal wear to corners and cut leaving no bottom border). 3) O'Doul/Ott/Tinker (Vg-Ex, minor corner wear and cut leaving no bottom border). In 1960 Fleer would have preferred to put out a set featuring current stars, but was unable to do so due to Topps' ironclad contracts with all the modern players (except Ted Williams), so Fleer came up with the idea for this old-timers set to keep its foot in the trading-card game. This is a tremendous ultra high-grade set of this historic, and often overlooked, Fleer issue. The total SMR value for the individual cards is $3,825. Total: 79 cards plus three uncut strips. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,258.75
