1960 Post Cereal Collection Including Mickey Mantle (9)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,896.00

Presented is an extremely rare collection of nine 1960 Post Cereal cards, consisting of six different (of the nine cards in the set) plus three duplicates. This collection is particularly special as eight of the nine cards still have the biographical tab intact. Because of their method of issue, on the backs of cereal boxes, these are rarely seen in high grade. 1960 Post Cereal cards have always been the "King" of all Post Cereal cards. They are large, beautiful, and rare not just because they were issued only one card per box; they are just rare, and this was the first year of issue for Post Cereal baseball cards. They were obviously issued on a very limited basis, and the set was successful enough to encourage Post to issue 200-card sets in the three following years. 1960 Post may be a little overlooked in today's marketplace, but it is one of the great classic sets of the era. 1960 Post Cereal are full-color large-format cards (7 x 8.75 inches) featuring stars from several sports and issued one card per box on the backs of boxes of Post Cereal, intended to be carefully cut from the boxes by youngsters. The collection consists of the following: Mickey Mantle (light bend along the top, otherwise Ex-Mt), Ed Mathews (Ex), two Harmon Killebrew (Ex-Mt and Vg-Ex), Al Kaline (Vg-Ex), three Frank Gifford (Ex, Vg-Ex, and Fr), and Bob Petit (Vg-Ex). Missing only Cousy, Drysdale, and Unitas for completion. The vibrant colors remain in each card featured in this collection with excellent central images and many of the technical issues limited to the corners or borders, which is very common on these large cards. The beautiful photography and rich color of 1960 Post Cereal cards make this issue one of the most striking and distinctive of all 1960s cards. This is a very strong collection of one of the most substantial and rarest all 1960s sets. Total: 9 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,896.00
