1957 Topps Complete Set (407)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $4,147.50
30% Ex-Mt, 58% Ex, and 12% Vg-Ex (includes some Vg). This is a very attractive mid-grade (with many stronger cards included as can be seen) complete set of the classic 1957 Topps issue. Highlighted by the rookie cards of Don Drysdale, Frank Robinson, and Brooks Robinson, the 1957 Topps includes many additional key star cards, among them Ted Williams and Mickey Mantle. This set is part of a large original-owner collection consigned to this auction directly by the gentleman who collected these cards out of packs in their year of issue. This set represents an exceptional collecting value as it has an appearance that presents stronger overall than suggested by the technically accurate assigned grades. Many cards have been downgraded due to light handling wear at the corners, but the set remains remarkably consistent throughout. There is always an extremely strong demand for classic vintage sets that are impressive yet are still relatively affordable. We have selected six cards to be graded by PSA. Keys: #1 T. Williams (Vg-Ex), 2 Berra (Ex), 7 Aparicio (Nr/Mt), 10 Mays (PSA VG+ 3.5), 15 Roberts (Ex+), 18 Drysdale RC (PSA EX+ 5.5), 20 Aaron (Vg-Ex), 24 Mazeroski (Ex+), 25 Ford (Vg), 30 Reese (Ex), 35 F. Robinson RC (Ex), 38 Fox (Ex), 40 Wynn (Ex+), 55 Banks (Ex), 62 Martin (Ex), 70 Ashburn (Vg-Ex+), 76 Clemente (Ex-Mt), 80 Hodges (Ex), 90 Spahn (Ex), 95 Mantle (Vg), 97 Yankees Team (Ex-Mt), 125 Kaline (Ex+), 165 Kluszewski (Vg), 170 Snider (Ex), 210 Campanella (Ex+), 212 Colavito RC (no right border, otherwise Ex-Mt), 250 Mathews (Ex), 286 Richardson RC (Ex+), 302 Koufax (PSA VG-EX+ 4.5), 312 Kubek RC (Ex-Mt), 324 Dodgers Team (Ex+), 328 B. Robinson RC (PSA EX 5), 338 Bunning RC (Ex+), 400 Dodgers' Sluggers (PSA EX+ 5.5), and 407 Mantle/Berra (PSA EX-MT 6). 1957 Topps have always been very popular due to their classic photographic style and inclusion of so many stars. Relatively affordable, attractive mid-grade sets of classic issues from the 1950s such as this always generate tremendous collector interest. Total: 407 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000.
