1955 Bowman Complete Set (320)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,851.25
11% Nr/Mt, 77% range from Ex to Ex-Mt, and 12% Vg to Vg-Ex. Complete set of 320 cards highlighted by many Hall of Famers, including Mantle, Aaron, Mays, Kaline, and Banks. The 1955 Bowman cards (Bowman's final baseball-card issue) have always been very popular due to their classic "television" style and inclusion of so many stars. The flush-to-the-border wood-grain design of this issue makes them very susceptible to corner and edge wear, and naturally difficult to assemble as a complete set in high grade. This is a very attractive set in mid-to-high grade that has been consigned to this auction directly by the original owner, who collected these cards from packs in the year of issue. We have selected six key cards from this set to be graded by PSA. Keys: #1 Wilhelm (Ex), 10 Rizzuto (Nr/Mt), 22 Campanella (PSA EX-MT 6), 23 Kaline (PSA EX-MT 6), 33 Fox (Ex-Mt), 37 Reese (Ex), 38 Wynn (Vg-Ex), 59 Ford (Ex), 60 Slaughter (Ex), 65 Zimmer RC (Ex-Mt), 68 Howard RC (Ex+), 103 Mathews (Ex+), 130 Ashburn (Ex, miscut on back), 134 Feller (PSA VG+ 3.5), 158 Hodges (Ex), 168 Berra (Ex), 171 Roberts (Ex), 179 Aaron (PSA EX+ 5.5), 184 Mays (PSA VG 3), 191 Lemon (Ex+), 197 Kiner (Ex), 202 Mantle (PSA NM+ 7.5), and 242 Banks (Vg-Ex). Overall a very sharp looking complete set requiring only a few upgrades to be an entirely Ex to Nr/Mt set. This is the type of vintage set that to so many collectors represents the very best value. The SMR value of just four of the graded cards (not including the two cards graded less than EX by PSA and not including the additional 314 ungraded cards!) is $1,365. Total: 320 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,851.25
