1954 Johnston Cookies Complete Set (35)
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,185.00
Extremely attractive complete set of 1954 Johnston Cookies. This series was regionally issued in Milwaukee, with one card included in each package of Johnston Cookies. The set is comprised exclusively of Milwaukee Braves players, and is especially noted for its inclusion of Hank Aaron in his rookie season (a card which is far rarer than the 1954 Topps Aaron rookie card). Other stars include Warren Spahn, Eddie Mathews, and the rare Bob Thomson card. After his early-season injury (which gave Hank Aaron a chance to play regularly), Bobby Thomson's card was withdrawn, accounting for its scarcity and high value. This set presents in very high grade with several cards downgraded due to tiny wrinkles on front or back only visible under close inspection. Condition: seven Nr/Mt, thirteen Ex-Mt, and fifteen Ex. Keys: #5 Aaron (Ex-Mt), 21 Spahn (Ex), 34 Thomson SP (Ex), and 41 Mathews (Ex+). This is very strong set of these substantial, high-quality regionally issued cards, highlighted by the extremely important (and in our opinion extremely overlooked) regional rookie card of Hall of Famer Hank Aaron. Total: 35 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $1,185.00
