1953-1963 Artvue Hall of Fame Plaque Postcard Collection (89)

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $711.00

Hall of Fame black-and-white postcards were only produced between the years 1944 and 1963, during which time a total of ninety-five different players were issued. Two companies manufactured the cards for the Hall of Fame over that twenty-year span: Albertype (1944-1952) and Artvue (1953-1963). Offered here are eighty-nine different Artvue cards (twenty-three Type 1 issued from 1953 to 1955 and sixty-six Type 2 issued from 1956 to 1963). The collection consists of the following: Type 1: Anson, Baker, Bender, Brouthers, Brown, Burkett, Chance, Comiskey, Connolly, Cummings, Delahanty, Ewing, Keeler, Kelly, Klem, Lyons, Mathewson, T. McCarthy, McGinnity, Nichols, Radbourne, Tinker, and Waddell. Type 2: Alexander, Barrow, Bresnahan, Bulkeley, Carey, Cartwright, Chadwick, Chesbro, Clarke, Cobb, Cochrane, E. Collins, J. Collins, Crawford, Cronin, Dean, Dickey, DiMaggio, Duffy, Evers, Feller, Foxx, Frisch, Gehrig, Gehringer, Greenberg, Griffith, Grove, Hamilton, Hartnett, Heilmann, Hornsby, Hubbell, Jennings, B. Johnson, W. Johnson, Lajoie, Landis, Mack, Maranville, J. McCarthy, McGraw, McKechnie, O'Rourke, Ott, Pennock, Plank, J. Robinson, Roush, Ruth, Schalk, Simmons, Sisler, Spalding, Speaker, Terry, Traynor, Vance, Wagner, Wallace, Walsh, Waner, Wheat, G. Wright, H. Wright, and Young. The cards are in Ex to Ex-Mt condition overall (with a few lesser due to corner wear). The cards are largely free of toning, which is a common problem in this issue, except for the Young which is heavily toned on the reverse. These B&W Hall of Fame postcards have always been prized as special by autograph collectors, but are just being discovered by card collectors and appreciated for their scarcity and their significance as an official Hall of Fame card set produced specifically for sale as souvenirs at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Total: 89 postcards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $711.00
