Rare 1954 Esskay Hot Dogs Orioles Collection (12)

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,370.00

Addendum: In the printed catalog, Newsom is identified as being the "with stadium lights in background" variety. This is an error. Included in the collection is the WITHOUT stadium lights variety of Newsom.

Collection of twelve rare Esskay Hot Dog cards. The regionally issued 1954 Esskay set exclusively features the first roster of the new Baltimore Orioles franchise. One two-card panel was issued with each pack of Esskay hot dogs. Their method of issue coupled with their legendary rarity have always made Esskays one of the most highly prized regional issues of the era. Condition is notoriously a problem with Esskays as they were designed to be cut from the hot dog package and are often found with varying degrees of borders intact. All cards in this collection have been neatly cut down to the image leaving no borders present and grade Vg-Ex to Nr/Mt throughout without respect to the cutting. The collection consists of the following: Dykes, Fanovich, Fridley, Garcia, Koslo, Mele, Moss, Newsom/without stadium lights in background, Pillette, Stuart, Turley, and Young. This collection represents a rare opportunity to acquire an extremely attractive group from this classic 1950s regional food issue. Total: 12 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,370.00
