1887 Four Base Hits Mike Dorgan

Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $29,625.00

Graded POOR 10 by SGC. Exceedingly rare sample card of Mike Dorgan from the Four Base Hits series. Four Base Hits are among the most legendary rarities of all baseball-card issues. In thirty-five years of specializing in nineteenth-century cards, Robert Edward Auctions has handled no more than seven or eight cards from this incredibly rare set. In the entire world we would be surprised if as many as twenty-five cards exist, and the actual number may in fact be far fewer. This Mike Dorgan example is encapsulated and graded POOR by SGC. The card is missing a piece (the center of the top from a nail), has some pencil notations (both on the front and back) and an ink stamp. Despite the obvious condition flaws, the card has a striking appearance and still displays bold contrast. This card represents a fascinating and unique opportunity to acquire an almost-never-offered sample from the Four Base Hits card set, with significant flaws but still very attractive, and one of nineteenth-century card collecting's most legendary rarities. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $29,625.00
