1950 Bowman Complete Set Minus One (251/252) Plus 20 Variations

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,258.75

60% range from Vg-Ex to Ex (includes a few better), 22% Vg, and 18% Gd (with some lesser). This is an extremely attractive complete set of 1950 Bowman baseball consigned to this auction directly by the original owner. While the set is missing one common (#246) for completion, it does include an additional twenty of the "No Copyright" variations found within the final seventy-two cards of the set (for a total of 271 cards). Seven cards are professionally graded (six PSA and one SGC). Keys: #1 Parnell RC (Gd/Vg), 3 DiMaggio (Vg), 6 Feller (Vg-Ex), 8 Kell (Vg/Vg-Ex), 11 Rizzuto (Vg+), 19 Spahn (SGC EX 60), 21 Reese (PSA NM 7), 22 Robinson (PSA VG-EX 4), 23 Newcombe RC (Ex), 32 Roberts (Ex), 33 Kiner (Vg-Ex+), 35 Slaughter (Vg), 37 Appling (Gd-Vg), 39 Doby (Vg-Ex+), 40 Lemon (Vg-Ex), 43 Doerr (Vg-Ex), 46 Berra (Vg-Ex), 58 Furillo (Vg-Ex), 59 Branca (Vg-Ex), 62 Kluszewski (Ex), 71 Schoendienst (Vg-Ex), 75 Campanella (Ex), 77 Snider (Ex), 84 Ashburn (PSA NM-MT 8 OC), 94 Boudreau (Vg-Ex+), 98 Williams (Gd/Vg), 112 Hodges (Fr), 139 Mize (Fr), 148 Wynn (Vg-Ex), 217 Stengel (Ex+), 219 Bauer (Ex+), 220 Durocher (Ex-Mt), and 229 Frisch (Ex+). The other PSA-graded cards are #24 (EX-MT 6), 52 (EX 5), 134 (NM 7), and 163 (EX-MT 6). The 1950 Bowman set is often overlooked by collectors simply because it does not include a Mantle or Mays rookie, but this was a landmark set in its day, being the first postwar baseball issue to feature full-color artwork instead of photographs. We rarely have the opportunity to offer a complete set of 1950 Bowman and over the years have consistently found it to be among the most elusive sets of the era. This is a very attractive mid-grade complete set of this classic early Bowman issue. Total: 271 cards (near-complete set of 251 plus 20 variations). Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000.
