1952 Berk Ross Complete Set (72) Including Mickey Mantle PSA NM 7

Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,740.00

Complete 72-card set of 1952 Berk Ross, including ten cards graded and encapsulated by PSA (all submitted by our consignor, who collected back in the 1960s), highlighted by an extraordinary PSA NM 7 example of key card Mickey Mantle. This is a strong set! Condition: 80% range from Ex to Nr/Mt (averaging Ex-Mt), 20% Vg to Vg-Ex (with a few slightly lesser). 1952 Berk Ross is a fascinating set, as it includes Joe DiMaggio's final traditional trading card as a player, and also Mickey Mantle in the same pose as his 1951 Bowman rookie card. The 1952 Berk Ross cards are similar in design to the 1951 Berk Ross card set, though slightly different in dimensions (they are larger and vertical in format) and the set was issued as individual cards instead of the perforated two-card panel design from the previous year. Keys: Ashburn (Vg-Ex/Ex), Berra (NM 7), Campanella (very thin bottom border, otherwise Ex-Mt), Joe DiMaggio (EX-MT 6), Doby (Vg), Doerr (Ex), Feller (Ex-Mt), Hodges (EX-MT 6), Irvin (no bottom border, otherwise Ex), Kell (20/80 L/R and 80/20 T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt), Kiner (75/25 L/R and T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt), Lemon (Vg-Ex), Mantle (NM 7), Martin (20/80 T/B, otherwise Ex-Mt), Mays (NM 7 [OC]), Mize (Ex-Mt), Musial (EX-MT 6), Reese (EX-MT 6), Rizzuto/bunting (Ex/Ex-Mt), Rizzuto/swinging (very thin top border, otherwise Ex-Mt), Roberts (Ex-Mt), Jackie Robinson (EX-MT 6 [MC], very thin bottom border), Schoendienst (Nr/Mt), Snider (EX-MT 6), and Ted Williams (EX-MT 6). This is a very attractive complete set of this substantial early 1950s issue. The 1952 Berk Ross set is among the most interesting and overlooked sets of the era. It is also far rarer than collectors realize. (Unlike the 1951 set, there were never any 1952 sets available from Bruce Yeko's Wholesale Cards.) The SMR value for just eight of the PSA-graded cards (not including the two qualified cards of Mays and Robinson and the 62 ungraded cards) is $2,823. Total: 72 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+. SOLD FOR $4,740.00
