1952 Topps Near-Complete Set Including #311 Mantle (399 of 407) with 174 PSA-Graded!

Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $26,662.50

1952 Topps near-complete set of 399 cards (of the 407 different in the set). Missing only eight commons (including one common player high-number) for completion. A remarkable total of 181 cards have been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (except for seven by either SGC, GAI, BVG, or SCD). This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a near-complete set of 1952 Topps, the premier postwar gum-card set, without spending the fortune that this set would cost in a higher grade, or the considerably higher amount that it would almost certainly cost to put this set together one card at a time. Also of note is the incredible expense invested in the grading of nearly half of this set. While the condition of cards from this set spans several grades, even the lesser-graded cards are very pleasing and exhibit bright colors and crisp focus. It is also important to note that the rare high numbers (#311 to 407) are among the strongest cards in this set.

The PSA grading composite is as follows: NM 7 (1 card): #294 (OC). EX-MT 6 (5 cards): #240, 280 (OC), 304, 314 Campanella, and 397. EX+ 5.5 (1 card): #293 (BVG EX+ 5.5). Ungraded Low-Number Keys (1-310): #2 Runnels (Vg-Ex), 22 DiMaggio (Vg), 26 Irvin (Ex), 48 Page/correct (Ex+), 49 Sain/correct (Ex-Mt), 65 Slaughter (Vg-Ex), 66 Roe (Vg-Ex), 91 Schoendienst (Ex), 122 Jensen (Ex), and 195 Minoso RC (Ex+). Ungraded High-Number Keys (#311-407): #344 Blackwell (Ex), 347 Adcock (Vg-Ex), 351 Dark (Ex), 377 Dressen (Vg-Ex), and 406 Nuxhall RC (Ex+). The cards missing for completion are #55, 134, 179, 200, 210, 250, 302, and 335. The amazing thing about a quality medium-grade 1952 Topps set such as this is the outstanding value it offers compared to cards in higher grade, as well as the comfort provided by the natural potential "break value" associated with such a set. This is a rarely offered, very pleasing mixed-grade complete set of one of baseball-card collecting's premier issues, with numerous significant highlights. The SMR value of just twenty-nine of the 181 graded cards is $4,900. This includes ONLY the twenty-nine non-qualified graded cards that grade PSA EX 5 or higher (and does not include the twelve cards with qualifiers graded higher than EX, the 140 cards graded less than EX, including the #311 Mantle, and numerous other stars, key cards, and high numbers, or any of the 218 ungraded cards!). Total: 399 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $10,000++. SOLD FOR $26,662.50
