1888 "Scrapps" St. Louis Browns and Detroit Wolverines SGC-Graded Collection (12)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,962.50

Collection of twelve different 1888 "Scrapps" (out of only eighteen in the set), highlighted by Hall of Famers Charles Comiskey and Ned Hanlon. This uniquely designed issue features nine players from the American Association’s legendary St. Louis Brownie Champs and nine players from the Detroit Wolverines. This is one of the few full-color baseball issues from before 1900 and also one of the most unusual and displayable of all early baseball-card sets. Each card has been graded and encapsulated by SGC (except one PSA): Two VG/EX 50: David Foutz and J. C. Rowe. Four VG 40: Robert Caruthers, C. H. Getzen, James O'Neill, and Hardy Richardson. Three GOOD 30: Charles Comiskey (HOF), F. Dunlap, and Ned Hanlon (HOF, PSA GOOD 2). Two FAIR 20: C. W. Bennett and Walter Latham. One Auth: A. J. Bushong. These cards were intended to be glued into scrapbooks and almost always have glue stains or paper residue on their reverses. The flaws on the reverse are often responsible for SGC grading this issue very harshly. This is a very attractive collection of twelve different 1888 "Scrapps," representing a very substantial start toward completion of this unusual nineteenth-century die-cut set, highlighted by two key Hall of Famers. Total: 12 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,962.50
