1953-1954 Briggs Meats Willie Mays

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $2,014.50

Extremely pleasing example of 1953-1954 Briggs Meats Willie Mays. This is one of the rarest of all Willie Mays cards. Briggs Meats were regionally issued in the Washington, D.C., area in two-card panels (one two-card panel per package of hot dogs), and were intended to be cut by hand from the two-card panels. They are usually found with serious condition problems relating to their method of issue, including creases and hot-dog stains. The 40-card set features a dozen stars from all three New York teams and twenty-eight players from the Washington Senators. This card has several light creases and a pinhole on May's cap. The reverse has light soiling. This is a very attractive low-grade example of one of the keys of all 1950s regional issues, and one of the most highly prized of all Mays cards. Encapsulated Authentic by PSA. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $2,014.50
