1948 Bowman Complete Set (48)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,258.75
The 1948 Bowman set is an extremely significant landmark issue of the postwar era, literally launching a new age of bubble-gum card collecting. Key rookie cards of many stars and Hall of Famers highlight Bowman's first baseball-card issue. This is a very attractive complete set, crisp and clean throughout. These have been consigned by the original owner, who kept them in great condition, carefully and safely stored as prized childhood keepsakes throughout the years. Condition: 65% are Ex to Ex-Mt with some better, 35% Vg to Vg-Ex with two lesser. We have selected six cards to be graded by SGC. Keys: #1 Elliot RC (Vg-Ex), 3 Kiner RC (Vg-Ex+), 4 Mize (Ex), 5 Feller (EX/NM 80), 6 Berra RC (VG/EX 50), 7 Reiser SP (Vg), 8 Rizzuto RC (EX 60), 12 Sain RC (Ex), 14 Reynolds RC (Ex), 17 Slaughter RC (NM 84), 18 Spahn RC (NM/MT 88), 19 Henrich (Ex), 29 Page RC (Vg-Ex), 35 Stirnweiss RC (Nr/Mt), 36 Musial RC (EX 60), 38 Schoendienst (Vg-Ex), 40 Marion RC (Ex-Mt), 47 Thomson RC (Vg-Ex), and 48 Koslo (Vg-Ex). This is a very attractive mixed-grade set of this significant postwar issue with many condition highlights. The equivalent SMR value for just five of the graded cards (not including the rookie Berra in Vg-Ex condition for which there is no SMR value or the forty-two ungraded cards!) is $1,960. Total: 48 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $3,258.75
