1941 Play Ball Near-Complete Set (62 of 72) Including DiMaggio and Williams
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $1,303.50
Collection of sixty-two different cards (out of 72 cards in set) from the 1941 Play Ball bubble-gum series issued by Gum, Inc., with many highlights, including Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Jimmie Foxx, Hank Greenberg, and Pee Wee Reese rookie card. This collection has been saved and consigned to this auction by the original owner! As a youngster, he was very protective of his cards as evidenced by the erased pencil writing of his name on two dozen cards. Overall, the collection almost all ranges in grade from Poor to Good, and includes GOOD examples of both Williams and DiMaggio, as well as a VG+ Reese. We have selected these three key cards (Williams, DiMaggio, and Reese) to be graded by SGC. Keys: #6 Hubbell (Fr), 8 Ott (Pr), 10 Vaughan (Fr), 13 Foxx (Fr), 14 Williams (GOOD 30), 15 Cronin (Fr), 18 Greenberg (Fr), 19 Gehringer (Fr), 20 Ruffing (Pr), 54 Reese (VG+ 45), 60 Klein (Pr), 70 Dickey (Pr), 71 DiMaggio (GOOD 30), and 72 Gomez (Pr). Missing only #1, 4,17, 21, 23, 32, 39, 45, 53, and 64 for completion. This original-owner collection would serve as a great start towards a complete set or as an affordable representation of the issue. The equivalent SMR value for just the three SGC-graded cards (not including the 59 ungraded cards) is $755. Total: 62 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $500++. SOLD FOR $1,303.50
