1887-1889 N172 Old Judge "Cincinnati Reds" Collection (20)

Original-owner collection of twenty Cincinnati Reds N172 Old Judges (including thirteen different). These cards are part of an unusual N172 collection consigned to this auction comprised exclusively of Cincinnati Reds players. The collection was saved by our consignor's grandfather, who lived in the Cincinnati area, and have remained in the family's possession since the year of issue. Collections of N172s that are new to the modern collecting world are few and far between at this late date. This group includes six Vg, five Good, five Poor to Fair, and four lesser due to irregular cuts. As is usually the case with Old Judges, many of the lower-graded cards present with superior appearance despite their technical grades. In the following listing, cards are identified by the numbers provided by the comprehensive Old Judge book checklist. This collection consists of the following: #66-3 Carpenter, two 140-3 Duryea, two 142-1 Earle, 231-2 Holliday, 231-6 Holliday, 331-3 Mullane, four 331-5 Mullane, two 331-6 Mullane, 346-5 Nicol, two 381-2 Reilly, 403-2 Schmelz, 423-3 Smith, and 473-4 Viau. Each card displays an 1888 copyright. This is a presentable group of Old Judges that is completely fresh to the hobby and has been untouched for decades. Total: 20 cards. Reserve $1,000.
