1888 N173 Goodwin Old Judge Cabinet George Pinkney

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,659.00

N173 Old Judge cabinet card of George Pinkney (#370-3 pose) of the Brooklyn Bridegrooms. This is an extremely attractive example, posed in an outdoor scene with background detail, including a portion of the stands. The Brooklyn players featured in outdoor scenes are extremely unusual and have always been appreciated for this by collectors. This cabinet is in Excellent condition with perfect centering, a cleanly mounted photo, contrast just a hint light (probably related to the photo being taken outdoors as opposed to in a studio setting), and almost no visible wear to the corners. The only flaw to speak of is a thin vertical stain extending from the bottom edge of the cabinet to the bottom edge of the photo. The blank reverse is entirely clean, a departure from most nineteenth-century cards which so often display writing, album residue, or paper loss. This is an outstanding sample in high grade from one of the most revered and substantial of all nineteenth-century baseball-card issues. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,659.00
